Protect yourselves - credit
Protect yourselves - credit
As I continue with recovering from my own issue of being scammed I am learning things along the way.
- Freeze Credit reports on all three major credit sites.
- Identity and Credit Monitoring Services
- Check you credit
- REPORT not only the credit sites but also to merchants if any fraudulent charges or accounts get opened.
I froze my credit report accounts, this meaning that I will get notified if someone tries to open a credit report on me, or if someone tries to take a loan out in my name, the lender will ask for the freeze to be lifted.
Keep track of your credit too.
I also thankfully, I had signed up through my employment an identity protection and credit monitoring account. You can also sign sign up on your own, or maybe your insurance provider can help suggest reliable resources.
I had started to see some -what I thought were- red flags after being scammed on my credit monitoring account, and let my identity protection and credit monitoring agency know.
When talking with my identify protection agency I asked a few questions, and they encouraged that I continue to share my story and what I've done.
One thing that I will have to remember myself, and want to share with everyone else is- if you see suspicious activity such as charges or loans being opened , to contact the merchant as well to let them know it was fraud and not you.
While we as victims may never see or be told the end results or see anything back, we may assist with getting a scammer caught helping to protect another.
All we can do is try our best, and try to help one another.
