In my case, I kept saying to myself- what can my local authorities do? and just started searching the web on where to report scams, I found the FTC, SEC, State Attorney General and FBI sites and did reports.
Lastly, in my story- I had called the local authorities and explained what was going on. The police officer I talked with was very kind and informational on my topic; however they mentioned I had hit the big ones on reporting what happened, and that there was not really much they themselves could do.
It was also explained that if the FBI or another government agency is looking into an active case with what I was involved with, my information could help to shut down the scammers. Which they will probably re-group and do it again; however I do believe even the slightest slow down and shutting down time does help to spare another victim.
I am still searching for support groups, as for my fraud with romance hit more than just the money.
